Veronica Fortuna, commonly referred to as Miss Fortuna, is the owner of O, Fortuna and a member of the Pioneer City Resistance.

Biography

Before Pandora's Box

Miss Fortuna was born on July 2, 2022. At some point, she worked as a courtesan in Atom City, where many of her colleagues were stray Helpers. She maintains connections with many of her former clients and patrons, including Hamilton Smith-Rawnsley.

She first met Noor Shah as a client, but Miss Fortuna saw Doctor Shah as more than a client. Miss Fortuna ended their relationship so that she could sort out which of her feelings about Doctor Shah were genuine and which were fake.

At some point before August 2065, Miss Fortuna became the owner of a burlesque night club in Pioneer City called O, Fortuna. She also joined the Pioneer City Resistance, and uses her club to conduct resistance business.

Veronica eventually came to view Isabelle Monday as her protege.

In 2068, Miss Fortuna took a trip into the desert along with fellow resistance members Isabelle Monday, Con Yung, and Zero Angiers to steal the content of a crashed delivery drone. Miss Fortuna realized that the pod probably contains a Helper, and she explained the plight of Helpers to Isabelle.

On the car ride back from rescuing Pandora, Miss Fortuna assured Isabelle that it isn't Isabelle's fault that Pandora imprinted on Isabelle, and suggested it could be fate. Miss Fortuna introduced herself to Pandora. After finding out that Pandora can't name herself, Miss Fortuna recommended that Isabelle name Pandora, and offered more reassurance to Isabelle.

The next day, Miss Fortuna hired Pandora as a cocktail waitress at O, Fortuna, instructing Lyra Lujic to train Pandora. Miss Fortuna proposed telling anyone they don't trust that Pandora is a stray Helper. Veronica explained to the other resistance members that they would be receiving an important package from a courier, before welcoming her cell's leaders, Hemmel and Natalya Ustrashkina. Miss Fortuna announced Isabelle's dance performance and praised Isabelle's talent. When Con alerted Miss Fortuna to the presence of a cop, Miss Fortuna sent Isabelle to deal with him.

Miss Fortuna explained Isabelle's role in the resistance to Pandora, and instructs Pandora to keep an eye out for the courier. When a non-resistance customer accidentally signals that he is the courier, Miss Fortuna offers him free drinks for the next five visits. Upon seeing the cop return, Miss Fortuna attempted to distract him further before the cop revealed to an exacerbated Miss Fortuna that he is the courier. Miss Fortuna assured a depressed Isabelle that she will ensure Isabelle gets paid. Veronica appears shocked when she sees Isabelle hit the courior, and she witnesses Hemmel welcome Pandora to the resistance.

Three weeks later, Miss Fortuna pays Pandora her first paycheck in cash, since Pandora doesn't have much of a legal existence.

Three months after finding helping to rescue Pandora, Miss Fortuna welcomed Doctor Shah to O, Fortuna, which Veronica reminded both Doctor Shah and Isabelle is a burlesque club. Miss Fortuna helped explain to the assembled Pioneer City Resistance members that her connections with former patrons allow the Resistance to steal important information from Eric Michael Fishguard. Veronica explained that she and Doctor Shah will attend a party hosted by Hamilton Smith-Rawnsley as guests, and they will sneak Pandora, Isabelle, and Con in disguised as workers. When Doctor Shah expressed discomfort at returning to a party of rich people, Miss Fortuna reassured her. At the party, Miss Fortuna lied to Hamilton, telling him Pandora was a stray. Doctor Shah and Miss Fortuna stood to the side of the party and talked about their experience and how awful every other guest is. Miss Fortuna listened while Doctor Shah explained to a tearful Isabelle that Helpers have planned obsolescence.

Moments later, Miss Fortuna encouraged Isabelle to treasure the time she has with Pandora Once Isabelle walked away, Miss Fortuna asked Noor if a cure for Helpers' kill switch is likely, and Noor inadvertently brought up an unpleasant memory of their breakup. Miss Fortuna explained why she had to break up with Doctor Shah long ago, and says she has missed Noor's company. Veronica was then shocked to see Pandora return to the main room of the party with four other Helpers in tow. Seeing Hamilton start to get angry at his Helpers, Veronica invented a lie to calm him, much to Doctor Shah's shock. Noor wondered if she really helped at all, since the young Helpers are still destined for short lives, but Miss Fortuna encouraged her to truly become a "doctor of Helpers" and find a cure. As the party ended, Miss Fortuna congratulated her colleagues on a job well done, and learned that Pandora got help from Adrastea. Miss Fortuna then witnessed Isabelle cry on the car ride home.

Pandora

Miss Fortuna acts as a mentor for Pandora. Veronica is the second member of the Resistance to introduce herself to Pandora, after Isabelle. Miss Fortuna gives Pandora a job under-the-table While Con is hesitant to explain what is going on to Pandora, Miss Fortuna clearly explains Isabelle's role in the Resistance.

Isabelle Monday

Isabelle has worked for Miss Fortuna since Isabelle was 19, and Miss Fortuna thinks of Isabelle as her protege. Miss Fortuna explains what Helpers are to Isabelle, and she reassures Isabelle when Isabelle is overwhelmed by finding Pandora.

Con Yung

Miss Fortuna employs Con at O, Fortuna and the two of them work alongside each other in the resistance.

Noor Shah

Miss Fortuna has a long history with Doctor Shah. Their relationship began with Doctor Shah as a client, but Veronica always saw Noor as more than a client, and she ended the romantic aspect of their relationship to avoid hurting Doctor Shah by accident. Noor wishes she and Veronica could meet up more often, but Doctor Shah doesn't normally want to visit Miss Fortuna's club.

Zero Angiers

Miss Fortuna employs Zero at O, Fortuna and they two of them work alongside each other in the resistance. However, Veronica seems quite exacterbated at Zero's behavior upon finding Pandora.

Trivia

• Miss Fortuna is one of five characters to appear in every chapter of Book One, along with Pandora, Isabelle, Con, and Zero.
• In the Pandora's Tale Book One Character Tournament, Veronica easily won her matches in the first two rounds, before coming in last place in a four-way match between herself, Natalya, Hemmel, and Con.
• Xan created a Mii based on Miss Fortuna and other resistance members in Miitopia. She is a Laid-Back Mage, and her favorite food is Sharp Stew. The Pandora Mii was angry at the Miss Fortuna Mii because the Miss Fortuna Mii stole candy from the Pandora Mii.
